The 3 things you NEED to know about petrol in diesel!

AdBlue In your Fuel

In Gloucestershire we are noticing increasingly more occurrences of AdBlue contamination where a motorist has poured AdBlue straight into their diesel fuel tank. This is in part stemming from people being unsure of how to use it (take note: it is not a fuel additive), and to some extent because the filler necks for diesel and AdBlue are normally directly close to one another on the car.

So, what is the trouble with putting AdBlue in a diesel vehicle?

Seeing that AdBlue is mainly deionised water, it is as bad as pouring water in to your tank. Diesel and water tend not to mix in any way and trying to run a diesel car on water is not going to work. Apart from this, the urea is quite corrosive to the fuel system hoses and seals and is prone to crystallisation, obstructing injectors and fuel filters. If in case you put AdBlue into the fuel tank get it out at once. And most definitely do not crank the engine - not even to shift it into a parking spot. In the instance that you have started the car you would in all likelihood have to have the entire fuel system cleaned and fuel filters changed out.

If perhaps you discover yourself to be in this position do not fret or panic! Call us, the UK’s Best fuel contamination company. Our engineers possess the specialised expertise and experience to get you back on the road rapidly and efficiently, no mess, no fuss.
